winter in paris

This picture makes me want to go to Paris in the winter.  I have only been in the summer, and think it would be awesome to go when there is snow on the ground and a chill in the air.  Picture taken from Time.

hail henri

Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908-2004) is a very famous French photographer who was one of the first to photograph people candidly and is often called the "father of modern photojournalism".  I really love the way he captures ordinary daily life.  His gorgeous images make me want to take more pictures of everyday people out in the world.  I am so inspired by this man who was able to live through and photograph so many things in his 95 years.
Cartier-Bresson spent more than three decades on assignment for Life and other journals. He traveled without bounds, documenting some of the great upheavals of the 20th century — the Spanish civil war, the liberation of Paris in 1944, the 1968 student rebellion in Paris, the fall of the Kuomintang in China to the communists, the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, the Berlin Wall, and the deserts of Egypt. And along the way he paused to document portraits of Camus, Picasso, Colette, Matisse, Pound and Giacometti. But many of his most renowned photographs, such as Behind the Gare St. Lazare, are of ordinary daily life, seemingly unimportant moments captured and then gone.  --taken from Wikipedia

family time in claremont

On Saturday I spent some time with my brother, J.D., and his family in Claremont.  We wandered around the downtown area stopping to snap pictures wherever we saw a good spot.  Stacey, my brother's fiancee was all smiles.  Annabelle, my two year-old niece, was a bit of a challenge, since her new favorite word is "No!".  Bruce, their nine month-old son was surprising cooperative and smiled away at me and his big sister.

We managed to find some great late afternoon light as the sun broke through the clouds in front of the Claremont Library.  It was lots of fun to take pictures of the four of them, and I'm already planning our next "photo shoot".

churros y chocolate

Besides photography one of my great passions is food... eating it mostly.  Today I have a picture from a blog that I visit often when I need some inspiration or a new recipe... Cannelle et Vanille is french for cinnamon and vanilla.  It is written by a woman from Spain, who now lives in the United States.  She is a food writer and a photographer, so not only does she make amazing food and write about it, but she also photographs the food so well.  This post on Churros and Spiced Chocolate Bisque had my mouth watering and my heart longing for a trip to Spain...

This picture was taken with my Blackberry, so not the best quality... I was on a walk the other night and the sun had just set over Balboa Island... the sky was so pretty I just had to capture the moment...

i heart the selby

The selby is a website created by photographer Todd Selby which features pictures of people in their homes.  Really cool, interesting, artistic people in their really cool, interesting, artistic homes.

Below are a few pictures of Shannan and Dan's home in upstate New York.  She is an artist and model and he is a photographer.  I love that they have a garden.  I love that they can their own food.  I love that they have 2 barns.  One barn is used as a studio, and the other for guests and parties.  I love that they have a ping-pong table and pool.  What a fun house!  To see more pictures of it you can go here.
