creative inspiration

Let the beauty you love be what you do.
There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground. -- Rumi

Lately I have found myself feeling a bit out of sorts.  Not myself.  Missing something.  Low in energy and passion.  And then I realized I haven't picked up my camera in months, been mostly ignoring this blog, and just feeling pretty creatively stunted.

I am currently reading and being inspired by Judith Orloff's book Positive Energy.  In it she says, "Creativity is the mother of all energies, nurturer of your most alive self.  It charges us every part of you.  When you are plugged in, a spontaneous combustion occurs... This energy rises from your own life force and from a larger spiritual flow.  It's a sublime feeling that comes from being a conduit, not a controller.  To liberate creativity you must think outside the box.  Reject conformity; choose something you're passionate about."

Yesterday, as I watched a gorgeous sunset unfold out my window, I grabbed my camera and started snapping away.  This was a reminder how good it feels to get lost in being creative.  I have always been someone who needs "permission" to sit and draw or take a whole day to go to a museum.  To do so on an average Saturday feels so wrong, like there are so many other things that should be done first, like laundry or bill paying.  But I am being reminded that taking time to be creative is not selfish or luxuriant- it is a necessity.

vacation dreaming...

How amazing would it to escape to the Beach House in the Maldives?
